San Diego Humane Society is hiring a Hospital Administrator for our Community Veterinary Program!

How you’ll impact our mission:

At San Diego Humane Society, we’re united by our mission to Inspire Compassion. One of the greatest challenges facing pet families in San Diego is access to affordable veterinary care. Our Community Veterinary Program helps give owned pets the medical care they need, including low-cost preventative and basic sick care, pharmacy services, and basic grooming like nail trims and ear cleanings. Through these essential services, we help keep animals with their families and out of shelters.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the business activities of the Community Veterinary Program (CVP) hospital including partnering with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to monitor key performance indicators and implement safety and security procedures. This is a leadership position with the additional responsibility of ensuring a positive work environment in which the practice achieves its operational goals. If you’re passionate about making an impact in the animal welfare movement, we’d love to talk to you.

What’s in it for you?

At SDHS, we’re proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and commit to being a place where every person – staff, volunteer, and guest – can feel a sense of belonging. We support and invest in employees through conscious delivery of benefits and a workplace environment based on our Core Values.

As an employee you’ll enjoy:

  • Competitive pay and paid time-off (including your Birthday Day Off!)
  • Comprehensive benefits package, training and well-being programs
  • 403(b) retirement plan with 5% match after 1 year
  • Free pet adoptions, pet vaccines and spay/neuter services
  • …and so much more!

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the strategic plan initiative related to accessible vet care and develop and propose new program offerings that support this initiative, including but not limited to the CARE program, spay/neuter, vaccine and microchip clinics and accessible vet care.
  • Sets goals for hospital performance based on previous performance and mission/vision; designs strategies for meeting these goals.
  • Develop and establish clinic procedures and follow guiding principles in making decisions and approaching challenges.
  • Oversee all aspects of hiring, training, evaluating, providing guidance, performing regular performance reviews and corrective action as needed for CVP. Work with CVP Medical Supervisor to manage day–to-day department operations and employees, including scheduling.
  • Work with CVP Medical Supervisor to provide training and help staff plan for continuing education; establish and maintain publications and veterinary medicine library.
  • Promote a client-centered environment and facilitate programs and processes that meet client needs.

Location: Based at our San Diego Campus, with the occasion of off-site special and mobile events. Will be required to travel as needed between SDHS campuses to perform duties.

Pay: Starting range is between $85,823 – $107,279 per year. The actual starting salary is determined by your related education and experience.

What we’re looking for:

  • Requires bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years professional related work experience, with three (3) years supervisory experience in the animal field; two (2) years of customer service management experience; and advanced training and/or instruction in field of Veterinary Hospital management. Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.
  • Possession of a valid passport or ability to obtain a passport within one (1) year of appointment highly preferred.
  • Bilingual skills a plus, bilingual-Spanish preferred.
