As Medical Director at West Loop Veterinary Care you will be the veterinarian who is empowered as a leader of the hospital. A medical director is a skilled veterinarian that is interested in leading a hospital team with compassion, humility, and curiosity. They recognize the impact a leader versed in distributive leadership principles can make with the partnership of a competent and collaborative team.

There are three main responsibilities for this position:

SUPPORTING A HEALTHY WORKPLACE CULTURE  

  • Ensure core values, mission and vision statements have been created or updated in an inclusive manner.
    • Encourage behaviors that are aligned with the agreed upon core values.
    • Provide timely coaching to team members who are exhibiting behaviors that are not aligned with the core values.
  • Encourage a team-based approach to medicine.
    • Support the creation of clear expectations around the roles/responsibilities of team members and the standards of patient care.
    • Foster an environment of flexibility and collaboration amongst team members.
  • Procure and develop a team that values personal and professional growth, acceptance, flexibility, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Model and maintain a willingness to explore new ideas, products, and processes to achieve Suveto’s strategic priorities.
  • Prioritize personal development including growth in medical practice, communication, conflict resolution, and personal discovery.

PRACTICING DISTRIBUTIVE LEADERSHIP AND SUPPORTIVE MENTORSHIP

  • Practice distributive leadership with an open mindset and communication style.
    • Utilize data-driven, core communication skills with an emphasis on actively listening to team members and accepting feedback.
  • Mentor associate veterinarians to improve their clinical skills as well as communication and conflict resolution with clients and team members.
  • Utilize a system for evaluating the associate veterinarians that assesses core competencies, team integration, and client satisfaction.
  • Participate in the success of the hospital by collaborating with the local hospital’s and Suveto’s leadership team in the following areas:
    • Help direct leadership meetings that are efficient, inclusive, and goal oriented.
    • Understand the key performance indicators and financial goals established by Suveto Operations. Recognize the role a united doctor team plays in the financial health of the practice.
    • Assist the hospital team in solving organizational challenges that may affect performance, retention, or client satisfaction.
    • Collaborate to stage team meetings that promote professional education and personal growth to maximize team potential.

ELEVATING AND SUPPORTING PATIENT CARE

  • Advocate for the patients and the clients that they serve using the principles of veterinary medical ethics and the Veterinarian’s Oath.
  • Consistently provide high quality medical and surgical care for pets.
  • Invest in ongoing quality improvement of standard of care through continuing education for doctors and equipment upgrades for the hospital.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of internal protocols and standards. Embrace group collaboration to produce materials that will be generally accepted and followed. 
  • Encourage a team-based approach to healing pets by utilizing the whole team to offer comprehensive care.
  • Support a patient / client centered model for communication and medical applications which emphasizes the need for client education and shared decision-making.
