DVM or equivalent

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (12 month) Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position with a research emphasis on antimicrobial resistance and a clinical interest in farm animal medicine and/or production.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree and a PhD. Board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred but not required. Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work collaboratively with others. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the discovery, learning and engagement missions of the PVM and VCS department. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program that addresses some aspect of antimicrobial resistance. This position is one of several new faculty positions across multiple colleges with the common aim of investigating antimicrobial resistance. More information on the goals of Purdue’s cluster hiring can be found here: https://www.purdue.edu/provost/diversity/equity/cluster.html

There is a clinical component to the position. The predominant clinical responsibility will be flexible depending on the interests of the candidate, and can either be on the hospital floor attending farm animal species, as part of either the cattle or swine ambulatory sections, or via herd health assessments. The time commitment for clinical service will be negotiated in light of the amount of time devoted to the research and teaching commitments. Clinical, didactic, and/or laboratory instruction of DVM students, veterinary technician students, house officers, and graduate students will also be expected. Participation in committee work, professional organizations, delivery of continuing education, and other activities appropriate for an engaged faculty member are anticipated.

The Purdue Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. The new David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital, a 24,000 square foot building offering comprehensive farm animal medical and surgical care, provides state of the art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research. The College has three academic departments, including the Veterinary Clinical Sciences department consisting of 53 faculty, 13 professional staff, and 41 resident instructors and graduate students. The College is deeply committed to the three land-grant missions (teaching, research, and extension), to international activities and perspectives that span all missions, and to excellence in all we do. The College’s strategic plan can be accessed at https://vet.purdue.edu/about/strategic-plan.php

Commitment to the College and Departmental missions of discovery, clinical service, learning, and engagement, and support of the College and Department strategic plans are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of collegiality and support cultural diversity in the College.
