DCES-Dogs-and-Cats

Dogs and Cats Specialty & Emergency (DCES) in Bowie, MD is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinarian Department Lead to join our growing, friendly team.

If you have a passion for ER, love guiding a strong team in providing best-quality medicine, and are looking for a new challenge—we want to talk to you!

The DCES story

Founded in 2003 as an Internal Medicine and Cardiology practice, Dogs and Cats Specialty & Emergency has since expanded our services to include Neurology, Oncology, Radiology, Surgery, and a 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care Department. Our highly skilled specialists and emergency doctors work together in a collaborative atmosphere.

We value a harmonious and cohesive working environment across all of our services, which are supported by an amazing staff of skilled and dedicated Technicians, Assistants, and Client Service Representatives working as a team to help you to provide the very best care to your patients, and ensuring that your patients have access to consultation with specialists on staff where applicable. Learn more about DCES here!

About the role

The ER Department Lead role will handle a mixture of clinical and administrative responsibilities, with two admin days and 10 to 11 clinical days per month (rotating each week between 3 clinical shifts or 2 clinical and one admin.) Two years of previous leadership experience preferred but not required.

The Lead is responsible for day-to-day workflow including, but not limited to: ER doctor scheduling, onboarding and training; facilitating regular department meetings; and providing mentorship and oversight to both doctors and support staff. In collaboration with the Medical Director and Hospital Director, ER DVM Lead strives to maintain a positive attitude, positive work habits and strong collaborative relationships within the department and with external services and rDVMs.

Benefits

Our practice offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including additional administrative stipend.

Benefits also include medical, dental and vision insurance, paid vacation, 401(k) with employer match, short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and continuing education allowance. We also cover PLIT, DEA and CDS fees, MD state licensure, AVMA memberships, journal access, dictation services, lab coats, and pet wellness discounts.

Nature enthusiasts will enjoy hiking, biking, or boating one of the many trails found in Bowie, while history buffs will appreciate visiting the Huntington Railroad Museum or the National Capital Radio & Television Museum.

Bowie is conveniently located within 30 minutes’ drive to Washington D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis—offering a plethora of options for entertainment, dining, and events.
