Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery Faculty Position

Assistant, Associate, Full Teaching or Tenure-Track Professor of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery  

The University of Missouri, College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery in Columbia, MO invites applications for full-time Assistant, Associate, or Full Teaching or Tenure Track Professor of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery.  Details about position, MU and Columbia are posted online at https://hr.missouri.edu/job-openings job # 45385.

Position will be tenure-track or non-tenure track teaching position, ranked at assistant, associate, or full professor level. The successful candidate will provide teaching and clinical service for the small animal orthopedic surgery service of the small animal surgery section and will have significant interaction with the anesthesiology, oncology, internal medicine, and neurology sections of the hospital. While non-tenure track faculty are encouraged to participate in the research mission of the department, tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in prospective research and to compete for external research funding. Some weekend and emergency duty, restricted to orthopedic cases only, will be part of the appointment.

It is also an expectation that the successful candidate will participate in professional development activities to continuously improve his/her abilities and to expand the surgical options that are available to our clients and their animals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree (such as VMD, BVSc);
  • Completion of a residency designed to meet the requirements for certification in American College of Veterinary Surgery or European College of Veterinary Surgeons.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

Candidates will be assessed based upon educational and professional achievement, and the potential for the candidate to work within the framework of the Small Animal Surgery Section.  Communication skills, experience working effectively in varied environments and letters of reference will all be considered in selection of candidates.  Qualifications include:

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Missouri, and licensure within 90 days of start of employment.  
  • Eligibility for DEA / BNDD Certificate.
