The Department of Clinical Sciences at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is seeking an assistant or associate professor to join our Diagnostic Imaging Section. This is a continuous-term (tenure equivalent) track position, with a significant research and scholarly activity commitment. The successful candidate will join a friendly, multicultural team with 6 board-certified radiologists, 1 equine ultrasonographer, 6 residents, and 10 technicians in the Diagnostic Imaging service, which operates within the Foster Hospital for Small Animals and serves the Hospital for Large Animals. The newly renovated Diagnostic Imaging service features one MRI suite equipped with a 3 T Siemens unit with advanced neurology and orthopedic software and a CT suite equipped with a 16-slice Toshiba Aquilion CT, both catering to large and small animal patients. A new Canon Exceed LB™ providing 160 - 0.5 mm slices and modified with the Qalibra™ system to accommodate equine and small animal patients is being installed. The section has a fully equipped radiology and fluoroscopy suite and two C-Arms that cater to an active interventional radiology case load. The section is also equipped with two DR small animal radiology suites, one DR large animal radiology room and one nuclear medicine suite. Two ultrasound rooms are equipped with two Phillips and one Toshiba unit with several high frequency transducers. The DI section works closely with the large animal ultrasound and sports medicine service, including shared rounds and research collaborations. Large animal ultrasounds are performed by expert equine ultrasonographers using a dedicated Toshiba unit. The Section manages its digital database with Carestream PACS V.12 software.  The Diagnostic Imaging Section is well-recognized for its strong residency program approved by the ACVR and the ECVDI.

Clinical responsibilities include provision of diagnostic imaging service, instruction of clinical-year students, and supervision of interns and residents in all aspects of Diagnostic Imaging. In addition to clinical rotation teaching, participation in pre-clinical classroom and laboratory teaching is required.  Given the number of imaging faculty, the ability to pursue specific diagnostic imaging interests, in large and small animals, exists.

Professor track faculty members are expected to engage in significant research and scholarly activity and are expected to develop an independent or collaborative research program. Excellent opportunities exist to build clinical and translational research collaborations with researchers on all three campuses of Tufts University, within the New England medical community, and beyond. Clinical research is supported by the clinical research shared resource, which includes a clinical trials office, the comparative pathology and genomics shared resource, the Animal Resources Division, and other resources such as the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Current relevant research strengths in the Department of Clinical Sciences include cardiovascular health, comparative oncology, musculoskeletal pathophysiology, urology, neurosciences, and infectious disease.

Candidates must hold a DVM degree or its equivalent. Completion of an American College of Veterinary Radiology (ACVR) or European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) approved residency is required. ACVR or ECVDI board-certification is required at, or not later than two years following, the date of hire. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability and interest in actively pursuing research and scholarly activity. Research interests that align with strengths in the department or the school are considered an asset. Demonstrated ability to multi-task in an academic environment and manage a robust caseload is expected.  Enthusiasm for, and demonstrated ability in, teaching is required. The candidate should also possess effective communication skills, have demonstrated ability to work in a team, and be committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive community.  The appointment would be at the rank or assistant or associate professor, depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

The review of applications will begin January 9, 2023, and continue until a suitable candidate is found.  Start date is negotiable, with a preference for a start date prior to August 2023.  Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, along with a cover letter describing their qualifications, teaching experience, clinical/diagnostic experience, research and scholarly interests, and interest in the position. Please address your strengths and experiences in diversity and inclusion as it relates to teaching, research, and/or service in your cover letter. Please provide the names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of three references.  Application materials should be submitted electronically through Interfolio (http://apply.interfolio.com/118402).  For questions about the application process and the position, please contact Dr. Leslie Sharkey at Leslie.Sharkey@tufts.edu.

Cummings School is situated in Grafton, MA on a 600-acre pastoral campus, forty-five minutes west of Boston and next door to Worcester, the second largest city in New England.  There is a regional rail service stop adjacent to campus and easy access to cultural and sporting events. The campus is a short drive from beautiful beaches, mountains, and other unique features of New England. The area is a hub of biotechnology and higher education. The K-12 education system is excellent. Housing is readily available close to campus or in any number of surrounding towns.
