Department: Veterinary Medicine | Veterinary Clinical Sciences

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a faculty position (clinical-track or tenure-track) in diagnostic imaging.

The person will join an energetic, internationally recognized, diagnostic imaging program comprised of 6 faculty radiologists, 7 residents, and 11 technologists. Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree. Specialty board certification (ACVR or ECVDI) is preferred, and board-eligible candidates will also be considered. An advanced degree or equivalent research experience is desirable for tenure-track candidates.

The final candidate will be offered an extremely competitive package that is commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience with the potential for an attractive signing bonus plan. In addition, the final candidate will have the potential to negotiate a work scheduled that meets their personal and professional needs including a reduced hours or days schedule and the opportunity to participate in external consultation activities.

Serious candidates are encouraged to reach out early in the process to discuss potential options for compensation, bonuses, and scheduling.

The position is available immediately and applications will be reviewed upon receipt and continue until the position is filled. Inquiries regarding the Diagnostic Imaging position can be directed to Dr. Eric Green, Search Committee Chair, by e-mail (green.689@osu.edu) or telephone (614- 292-1040) or to Dr. Rich Bednarski, Chair, Department of Veterinary Clinical Science, by email (bednarski.1@osu.edu) or phone (614-292-7105).

To apply, interested candidates are invited to apply online here: https://osujoblinks.com/2m1j

Submit a letter of intent stating professional goals and interests, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of four references.

The diagnostic imaging service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center and referral center that includes state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, wireless DR systems; 3 ultrasound units; a 128 slice, multidetector CT (used for both large and small animals); a nuclear medicine suite; a 3T MRI with a full suite of imaging applications (neurologic, orthopedic, cardiac, vascular) for both large and small animals; and a linear accelerator with MLC and onboard imaging. The Veterinary Medical Center also provides a mobile ultrasound service that is headed by one of the faculty radiologists. Access to an on-campus 7T magnet, PET/CT and SPECT/CT is also available through the OSU Division of Imaging Research.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences supports a faculty of over 70 clinical specialists, educators, and investigators along with extensive training programs for professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. The College of Veterinary Medicine http://vet.osu.edu is ranked 4th among North American colleges of veterinary medicine by US News & World Report. The Ohio State University http://www.osu.edu has been ranked third nationally on the list of best places to work in academia, according to The Scientist magazine. Columbus is the 14th largest city in the United States (population of 1.5 million within the city and metropolitan area) and supports a vibrant, multifaceted community http://www.experiencecolumbus.com.

Teaching responsibilities will include lectures, labs, and clinical teaching of diagnostic imaging to professional students, interns, residents, and graduate students. A brand new clinical and professional skills teaching laboratory opened in 2018, built for pre-clinical teaching of veterinary students. Faculty members are expected to be involved in professional and community outreach, committee service, and curriculum development. Participation in continuing education events and outreach activities for the public and private practitioners is expected. Clinical-track candidates will be assigned up to 75% time in clinics, including clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns and residents. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, yet clinical research, publications or other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine are expected and encouraged. Tenure-track candidates are given at least 50% off-clinic time to meet expectations for developing an extramurally funded research program in diagnostic imaging that includes collaboration with other scientists, advising of graduate student research, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Faculty members are encouraged to develop collaborative endeavors with clinicians and scientists within the College and across the university. Excellent collaborative opportunities are available in the Departments of Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine within the College and other units on the university campus. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is a major medical research complex located within walking distance to the College of Veterinary Medicine and research collaborations with the Department of Radiology are well established and encouraged.
