The successful candidate will devote up to 75% of his or her time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching (10%), research and other scholarly activities (5%), and academic citizenship (10%), including the possible establishment of a dentistry residency program. Clinical duties and continued development of the dentistry service will be shared with one boarded dentist. Candidate will work alongside two dental service technicians (one is charter VTS). Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of cases, instruction of veterinary students, and participation in after-hours dental emergency coverage. Opportunities for collaborative clinical research exist throughout the College and University. Numerous opportunities for research exist throughout the college and university. Laboratory space is available as needed and the CVMBS has a pool of qualified graduate students seeking a degree in biomedical sciences. The university also has animal care facilities for a variety of research animals and several dedicated areas for conducting animal research. A generous start-up package will be available commensurate with the track record and needs of the individual. The 3,000 square foot intensive care unit is staffed with talented technicians. The teaching hospital has capable personnel and modern technology including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen therapy, centralized ECG monitoring, point of care viscoelastography, tomotherapy, cell saver (autotransfusion) technology, stereotactic brain and nasal biopsy, imaging (3T MRI, 40-slice CT), color-flow Doppler ultrasonography and echocardiography, video endoscopy, nuclear imaging, an active multidisciplinary interventional radiology service, and two in-house pharmacists with compounding capability. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 60 faculty members in the small animal hospital, one criticalist in the large animal hospital, and an active group of house officers that includes more than 45 rotating interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department.
