Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for two full-time (12-month) Clinical or Tenure-track positions in Veterinary Anesthesiology at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level. The successful candidate will join two other ACVAA certified faculty members, a resident, and nine dedicated technicians in the anesthesia section.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and board certification or completion of an anesthesia residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA). Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check will be required for employment for this position by the University.

Purdue University is one of the nation’s leading land grant universities with a full range of academic majors. It is located in Tippecanoe County, which consists of more than 195,000 residents and includes both West Lafayette and Lafayette, Indiana. Situated conveniently between Indianapolis and Chicago, it is a community that includes over 40 parks and trails, high-tech corporations, affordable housing, and numerous opportunities for shopping, dining, arts, and festivals.

The Purdue University Veterinary Hospital has completed a major expansion project. Encompassing 162,500 square feet, the new David and Bonnie Brunner Purdue Veterinary Medical Hospital Complex includes three components located just east of the existing Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine:

  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital (adding 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal

    hospital facilities in Lynn Hall)

  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Equine Hospital
  • The David and Bonnie Brunner Farm Animal Hospital

The new complex provides state of the art teaching facilities dedicated to educating the next generation of veterinary professionals, enabling faculty to provide top quality compassionate animal health care, and serve as a catalyst for interdisciplinary clinical research.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the PVM and the VCS department. Learning: Participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM and veterinary nursing curricula, clinical teaching in the Purdue Veterinary Hospital (PVH), and participation in training house officers. Faculty also participate in university-wide graduate programs (MS and PhD). Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the PVH (typical time commitment: 30 -50% Tenure Track and 50-70% Clinical Track); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Back up emergency call is shared with other anesthesia faculty. Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects.  Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program. Research that complements the interests and strengths of current faculty interests is ideal but can also be tailored to the candidate’s specific background and interests. The PVM is situated on the Purdue campus, allowing for a wide array of both clinical and basic research opportunities within and outside of the veterinary college, such as retrospective and prospective studies in both small and large animal anesthesia and pain management. Service and Engagement: participation in committee work, professional organizations and community service, delivery of continuing education programs; and other appropriate activities are encouraged.

Commitment to the College and Departmental missions of learning, discovery, and engagement, and support of the College and Department strategic plans are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of collegiality and support cultural diversity in the College. In turn, PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development and has a formal faculty mentoring program. The College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University values, nurtures, and respects all members of its community and ensures an environment of inclusive excellence where all students, faculty, and staff are inspired and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine/Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in a separate Diversity and Inclusion Statement, indicating their past experiences, current interests, or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on June 15, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide a letter of intent describing professional goals, (including diversity statement and teaching philosophy); curriculum vitae; and the names and contact information of three professional references via the provided link: https://careers.purdue.edu/job-invite/19826/

Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and board certification or completion of an anesthesia residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).
