The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) invites applications for a full-time (12-month) Clinical or Tenure Track Position in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will become a member of the Small Animal Surgery Section that consists of Soft Tissue Surgery, Orthopedic, and Neurology/Neurosurgery subsections as well as the Physical Rehabilitation service. The small animal surgeons have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic (digital radiography, 64-slice CT scanner, 1.5T MRI, C-arm, ultrasound, scintigraphy) and recently updated surgical equipment (including a range of minimally invasive equipment, a dedicated Storz tower, and 2 ForceTriads). The Surgery service works closely with other specialty services, including Emergency and Critical Care, Anesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiology, Behavior, Dermatology, Community Practice, Medical & Radiation Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Urology. A new Veterinary Hospital was dedicated in spring of 2022 that will have 11 state-of-the-art ORs (3 dedicated to Soft Tissue), ICU, intermediate care and general wards, dedicated treatment areas (including soft tissue surgery) and full range of aforementioned diagnostic imaging facilities.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and board certification or completion of a residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS). Candidates must possess excellent surgical and diagnostic skills as well as outstanding interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills, and be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and house officers. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

Purdue University is one of the nation’s leading land grant universities with a full range of academic majors. It is located in Tippecanoe County, which consists of more than 195,000 residents and includes both West Lafayette and Lafayette, Indiana. Situated conveniently between Indianapolis and Chicago. It is a community that includes over 40 parks and trails, high-tech corporations, affordable housing, and numerous opportunities for shopping, dining, arts, and festivals.

The candidate will actively participate in the learning, discovery and engagement activities of the PVM and the VCS department. Learning: Participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM and veterinary nursing curricula, clinical teaching in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), and participation in training house officers. Faculty also participate in university-wide graduate programs (MS and PhD). Clinical Service: Providing clinical service to patients of the VTH (typical time commitment is dependent on Tenure vs Clinical Track and section need); supervising veterinary students, veterinary nursing students, and house officers; and building strong relationships with referring veterinarians. Caseload is robust and diverse in scope, and would allow candidates to build an area of clinical focus, such as MIS, surgical oncology, urology.  Discovery: All faculty are expected to collaborate on clinical research projects. Tenure track faculty are expected to develop an independent research program. Research that complements the interests and strengths of current faculty interests is ideal but can also be tailored to the candidate’s specific background and interests. The PVM is situated on the Purdue campus, allowing for a wide array of research opportunities, such as infectious disease, immunology, and oncology. Service and Engagement: Participation in committee work, professional organizations and community service, delivery of continuing education programs; and other appropriate activities are encouraged.

Commitment to the College and Departmental missions of learning, discovery, and engagement, and support of the College and Department strategic plans are essential. The successful candidate is expected to promote an atmosphere of collegiality and support cultural diversity in the College. In turn, PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development and the VCS department has a formal faculty mentoring program.  The College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University values, nurtures, and respects all members of its community and ensures an environment of inclusive excellence where all students, faculty, and staff are inspired and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine/Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences is committed to advancing diversity in all areas of faculty effort, including scholarship, instruction, and engagement. Candidates should address at least one of these areas in a separate Diversity and Inclusion Statement, indicating their past experiences, current interests, or activities, and/or future goals to promote a climate that values diversity and inclusion.

Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2022, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide a letter of intent describing professional goals and teaching philosophy; a separate diversity statement; curriculum vitae; and the names and contact information of three professional references via the provided link: https://careers.purdue.edu/job-invite/18460/

Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer. All individuals, including minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, and board certification or completion of a residency program registered by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).
