About the position: Are you tired of the corporate model of veterinary services? Just getting started in your vet career? Are you ready to make a difference for thousands of companion animals across Alaska? Come join us at the Alaska SPCA! We are interested in adding a talented, energetic and positive Veterinarian to our growing team based in Anchorage, Alaska.  The AK SPCA Clinic provides low-cost spay and neuter services, dental and surgical procedures, and basic care for dogs, cats, and rabbits.  Staff veterinarians typically work a 40-hour (4-10s) week with two days of S/N, one of dental/surgeries, and one of exams.  Our vets also provide care and support for our animal shelter.

About the Alaska SPCA: The AK SPCA is a private nonprofit organization and the oldest animal welfare organization in the state. In addition to the Anchorage-based clinic and shelter, we operate a mobile outreach clinic and partner to deliver critical veterinary services to remote, “frontier” communities without vet services; an array of pet family support resources; and public education programs.  Learn more by checking our website at www.alaskaspca.org .

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited veterinary school; eligible for state licensure and DEA registration.  Recent graduates will be considered and board certification is not required. Salary will be based on years of experience.

About Anchorage: Anchorage offers recreational options for both the outdoor enthusiasts and those who prefer indoor activities.  In addition to hundreds of miles of trails in and around the city, perfect for biking, hiking, or skiing, we are less than a one-hour drive to world-class downhill skiing, and a wealth of back country skiing options.  For the arts lover, Anchorage is home to multiple small galleries, theater groups, symphony, and opera.  The cost of living is not unlike that in any other urban area, with the rent for a 2 BR apartment ranging $1,200-$1,800.  Contrary to myth, Anchorage is not dark in the winter, although the sunsets in the late afternoon in December.  Our endless summer nights allow you to enjoy sunshine well past 10 PM.

To Apply: email resume, cover letter, and references to Kelly Donnelly, Executive Director at kdonnelly@alaskaspca.org

NOTES:

Additional Salary Information: We also provide paid leave; medical, dental, and vision insurance. Successful candidate eligible for $3,500 signing bonus
