Clinical Veterinarian-Lead to Entry Level Positions and Residents Live Animal Research

Clinical Veterinarian, these positions range from experienced doctors to newer graduates or residents interested in lab research that will offer all areas of stepping stone growth and enrichment. Residents can be hired and paid now with our help and time off for boards.

NHP

Quarantine  DVM with lab animal experience. 1-2 years is fine, new graduates with lab animal experience are good.  they need to have either experience or high interest in working with primates in a primate exclusive program. 

Quarantine  2-5 years experience working with NHPs in any type of laboratory setting. Anyone who has completed a Laboratory Animal Internship from an ACLAM  (American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine) program. 

Breeding DVM with lab animal experience  1-2 years is fine, new graduates with lab animal experience are good.  they need to have either experience or high interest in working with primates in a primate exclusive program. 

Breeding DVM with experience in a breeding program, ideally a NHP breeding program, but dogs, pigs, potentially even large mouse colonies. with some level of responsibility for other veterinarians 2-3 years management (does not need to be in the official title of whatever role they held).

 Senior Clinical Veterinarian 

• Managing Clinical Cases
• Managing the Breeding Colony
• Reducing Morbidity and Mortality rates. 
• Input on growth designs
• Husbandry staff training
• Veterinary staff training- both veterinarians and supporting staff
• Creation, upkeep, and revamping of SOPs
• Reporting all animal care concerns and becoming involved in the resolution
• Assisting the site supervisor to ensure that the policies and procedures regarding animal care and welfare are in compliance and contain relevant regulations
• Performing physical, ophthalmic, and other needed exams on NHPs
• Providing medical and surgical care for the animals to ensure adequate and humane veterinary support. 
• Ensuring animal physiological welfare including environmental enrichment, pairing, and group formation of animals 
• In charge of animal pairing and group formation. This includes changes in group make-up (removing or adding  animals, group reformation) as necessary to ensure animal compatibility and mental well being as well as to address or prevent stress-related illnesses or disorder (sterotypical behavior, SIB, overgrooming, diarrhea)
• Ensure that the minimum environmental enrichment requirement described in the most current edition of the Handbook of Laboratory Animal Management and Welfare for Animals is met for all animals.  Expand the enrichment program to address the needs of both long-term and short-term facility residents to encourage good health and mental well-being for all animals.
