We are seeking an associate veterinarian for our AAHA-accredited small animal hospital in Northern San Diego County, California, where we focus on low volume, high quality medicine and surgery.

La Costa, California is an affluent coastal community, home to the destination resort Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Residents of La Costa view their pets as members of their family, and therefore expect outstanding quality of care and service.

An associate must be able to communicate effectively with clients and practice to the highest standards. We have a terrific team of skilled employees (including RVTs) and wonderful, compliant clients.

For an associate to thrive in such a pet-centric and well-to-do community, she/he must possess:

• Positivity and flexibility
• Excellent medical and soft-tissue surgical skills, including dentistry
• Exceptional communication skills with both staff and clients
• Significant continuing education achievements - beyond licensing requirements - including management CE
• The ability to recognize that teamwork is essential for a quality practice; ability to work as a team member as well as a doctor and supervisor
• Working knowledge of and interest in the business aspect of a veterinary practice, including finances, growth and management
• Willingness to perform management responsibilities
• Interest in marketing and growth of the practice
• The capability to maintain tact and diplomacy with staff members and clients
• The desire to manage cases collaboratively with other veterinarians in the practice
• Perform basic computer skills

We pride ourselves on our high standards of care, exceeding many of the AAHA requirements. This includes:

• 30-minute appointment blocks for all examinations
• Digital medical records and radiology
• Aggressive pain management protocols, including preemptive analgesia
• Comprehensive in-house laboratory equipment and tests
• Labwork required for all anesthetic procedures
• IV catheter, IV fluids and extensive monitoring for all anesthetic procedures, including blood pressure, ECG and capnography
• Dedicated technician to monitor anesthesia for all procedures
• Regular collaboration with mobile specialists including radiologists and board-certified surgeons
• Full-mouth digital dental radiographs mandatory for every dental procedure
• Ultrasound
• Surgical stem cell collection and treatment
• Average support staff to doctor ratio of 5:1

Our practice has a foundation in preventative care, with a strong emphasis on dentistry. Comprehensive oral health assessments and treatments (COHATs) are performed nearly every day, which frequently involve both basic and surgical extractions. An associate must have a genuine interest in dentistry to flourish in our practice.

As a small, family-oriented and privately owned business, we recognize the need for and emphasize work-life balance. No holiday, after-hours or on-call shifts.

We are offering a generous compensation and benefits package, which includes:

• Base salary plus production commission
• Health Insurance
• Vision Insurance
• Dental Insurance
• Aflac supplemental coverage
• Paid sick, vacation, holidays and CE days
• Simple-IRA retirement plan
• Continuing education allowance
• Professional dues allowance
• Uniform allowance
• Pet care discount
• Partnership potential
