Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM) is seeking a second equine staff surgeon for the Purdue University Centaur Equine Specialty Hospital (CESH) in Shelbyville, Indiana. The Centaur Equine Specialty Hospital is operated by PVM as an independent facility that models private practice, while collaborating with faculty at PVM for optimum patient care in many areas of specialty practice. The hospital is a regional diagnostic and surgical facility located near Indiana’s 2 horse racing facilities. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging and surgical facilities, and functions as an integral part of the PVM mission to serve the equine industry. The upcoming installation of the first Qalibra CT system in the US will create one of the leading imaging and surgical facilities in the Midwest. CESH is operated as an independent start-up business with the clear quest to function financially self-sufficient whilst being an integral part of the PVM mission. The successful applicant will be responsible for the majority of the emergency duty rotations. All university employees are afforded a generous benefits package including medical/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, and retirement contributions.

Required:

  • DVM or equivalent degree
  • Must be board certified with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons or other veterinary specialty college (residents finishing their training programs in 2021 and board eligible will be considered equally)
  • Must be eligible to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Indiana
  • Must demonstrate a sincere interest in providing outstanding clinical service, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to effectively supervise hospital staff

Preferred:

  • Experience in veterinary private practice

Additional Information:

  • There will be a significant amount of time spent on call for emergency duty rotations (up to 75%)
  • The successful applicant that is eligible to sit for a specialty board examination will be given time to study for that examination.
  • This position is located in Shelbyville, Indiana
  • Purdue will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
  • A background check will be required for employment in this position
  • FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible For Overtime)
  • Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contributions immediately
