Description

Emory University's School of Medicine: Division of Animal Resources (DAR) is seeking an Assistant Colony Manager to join their team!

 

The Assistant Colony Manager will assist in managing a colony of laboratory animals, maximizing efficiency of their breeding, research utilization and recovery of maintenance costs.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for documenting breeding activities including:
    • genealogies and testing results;
    • assisting in arranging/collection of biological samples;
    • culling, introduction of new animals; and
    • animal ranking.
  • Will train faculty and staff one-on-one the basics of breeding management and participate in the annual training course.
  • Will assume timekeeper responsibilities in the absence of the Colony Manager.
  • Performs additional responsibilities, as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Two years of experience working with laboratory animals.
  • Must have a working understanding of principles of animal breeding, genetics and behavior of one or more relevant species.
  • Experience with relational databases and spreadsheets.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AALAS LATG certification preferred.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
