Program Description: Mount Laurel Animal Hospital is looking to hire 4-6 veterinarians to join our rapidly growing team. This unique opportunity is available to new graduates or veterinarians interested in beginning a career in emergency veterinary medicine. While this position is not a traditional internship, there will be a focus on strong mentorship both clinically and didactically. The goal is to train candidates to be confident, competent, productive emergency veterinarians and surgeons by the end of this year-long fellowship.  The candidate will earn 3.5-4 times the salary of a traditional "intern" and there are significant investments in training and development on behalf of the employer, and so continued employment is anticipated.

Skills & Qualifications: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree and be licensed in the state of NJ (or eligible for licensure). The ideal candidate is highly motivated, organized, and friendly. We are looking for someone who will embrace our philosophy of top-notch customer service, outstanding client and patient care, and teamwork.

Responsibilities of Fellow: The year will be divided between daytime and overnight hours to provide a wide range of experiences. One section (of 6 month duration) will be day shifts consisting of three 12-hour shifts and an 8 our surgery day per week (averaging 42 hours per week). For the 12-hour days, fellows will be expected to manage multiple hospitalized cases and then help with in-coming patients. On surgery days, spays and neuters will be assigned, and as skill level increases, other types of surgeries will be added such as cystotomies, amputations, mass removals, foreign bodies, etc. The second section will be three 2-hour overnight shifts per week (averaging 36 hours per week) and will mainly be focused on managing hospitalized cases in the ICU. Fellows will also be expected to attend all ER department meetings (usually once every 2 months), attend the mandatory lecture series given by our specialists (once monthly), participate in communication rounds geared at helping to bridge the gap with communication from vet school to real world clinical practice, attend journal clubs and Morbidity & Mortality rounds throughout the year.

Support Provided: The hospital will provide one-on-one instruction/oversight on all cases and surgeries with experienced veterinarians and specialists. In addition, the fellow may spend dedicated time in a specialty of their choice for additional training. Further, there will be informal meetings to help hone communication skills and a lecture series given by our specialists monthly.

Compensation: A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package will be provided to the right candidates (which on average works out to be about 3-4x that of a traditional internship). Our benefits package includes health, vision, and dental insurance, 401K match, CE allowance, and 3 weeks of vacation time.

Our Hospital: We are a busy privately-owned specialty, 24/7 emergency, and general practice which is built around a collaborative culture. Our team is made up of over 40 veterinarians and several board-certified specialists including internal medicine, surgery, oncology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, in-house clinical pathology, cardiology, radiologist/ultrasound coverage, behavioral medicine, neurology, dermatology, and critical care. We are well staffed with 170+ support staff and highly trained nurses including several veterinary technician specialists.

The hospital has recently undergone a large expansion, and is equipped with: a Toshiba 64 Slice CT, Siemen’s 1.5 Tesla MRI, endoscopic equipment, a fully integrated in-house laboratory, multiple surgical suites, ultrasound, digital radiography, therapy laser, surgical laser, Snyder ICU cages, chemo hood, and fully stocked pharmacy. Our expansion includes dedicated rooms for: internal medicine/endoscopy, i131 treatment, ultrasound and reading rooms, CT, MRI, advanced and minimally invasive surgery, and ICU.

Location: Our hospital is located in Mount Laurel, NJ which is a convenient 20-25 minute commute from Philadelphia and only 1 hour drive to the Jersey Shore.

If you have an interest in hearing more about our hospital, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website mlahvet.com. Please submit your CV to Christopher Torre, VMD (practice owner) at ctorre@mlahvet.com.

NOTES:
6 openings.
