Versova Management has an immediate opening for a Director of Animal Health. This position is responsible for the 30 million layers and pullets under Versova Management’s care. This position will be responsible for monitoring flock health for disease and mortality, maintaining the company’s vaccination program, managing the company’s Bio Security programs and overseeing the company’s Animal Welfare programs. Additionally, the position will be responsible for overseeing the Versova Lab. This position will be based in central Iowa and will require periodic travel to farms in Iowa and Ohio. The position will be expected to periodically walk all flocks and provide educations for the Barn and Production Managers. The ideal candidate will have a DVM with a Poultry specialization and will have 3-5 years of field experience and be able to be licensed in Iowa and Ohio. Essential Job Functions
Monitor flock health for disease and mortality rates.
Manage all aspects of the vaccination program to include pricing and sourcing.
Assist in the development and maintenance of all layer flock SOP’s.
Monitor and oversee Salmonella control programs.
Periodically walk all farms to check flock health.
Manage and oversee the Versova Lab and its personnel.
Manage and maintain Bio-Security Programs for all facilities.
Partner with Pullet Operations to improve processes and SOP’s.
Monitor contract bird crews to insure proper vaccination technique, beak trim and bird handling processes are being utilized.
Maintain Animal Welfare programs.
Attend continuing education classes and represent the organization at industry events.
Maintain working relationships with government agencies, i.e. FDA, USDA, etc.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
DVM degree with a Poultry specialization.
A preference of 3-5 years of field experience.
Diplomat of the American College of Poultry Veterinarians preferred.
Ability for licensure in the states of Iowa and Ohio.
Critical thinking and complex problem solving ability.
Must demonstrate an ability to work in a team based work environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers – both internal and external.
Instruct classes to improve bird health and perform necropsy techniques.
Must have a valid driver license.
Must be willing to travel.
