The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant/Associate/Professor position in Shelter Medicine. Applicants must hold a DVM or equivalent degree and have experience working with shelter animals. Preference will be given to candidates with formal training in shelter medicine and/or eligibility for board certification with the ABVP in the specialty of Shelter Medicine Practice.
The successful candidate will provide clinical instruction in shelter medicine for fourth year veterinary students. The majority of training will occur off-site at regional shelter facilities using a mobile surgical unit. The successful candidate must be committed to providing excellent patient care and clinical training in surgical sterilization and non-surgical considerations associated with shelter practice. Additional responsibilities will include building and maintaining cooperative agreements with regional shelters to provide learning opportunities for students, providing consultation services to regional facilities, community outreach and didactic teaching in shelter medicine and basic surgery. The successful candidate will oversee the associated intern program and support staff. Generation of scholarly communication in issues relevant to shelter medicine and/or clinical training will be encouraged.
This is a 12 month, annually renewable position. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and qualifications.
